Kyrie Irving plants to kick off his sixth signature shoe in a huge way. The debut of the Nike Kyrie 6 will consist of the “Preheat” collection that will release with 11 different colorways dedicated to different cities around the globe.
If you know Kyrie, you probably know he’s a spiritual person. We all know that players’ numbers mean a lot to them and they’re mostly picked due to the number meaning a lot to then in a certain way but Kyrie’s attachment to his number 11 goes deeper than most. It begins with his dad, Drederick Irving, who wore #11 during his basketball career; Kyrie wore it in high school and does now with Brooklyn. The connection extends to a metaphor for balance and harmony (1+1) that resonates with Kyrie, and cascades from there. “K” is the eleventh letter of the alphabet; “Kyrie Irving” is 11 letters; Irving played 11 games at Duke University; he was drafted round 1, pick 1 in the 2011 NBA draft and he surpassed the 11,000 point mark on March 11. As you can see there’s a big correlation between the NBA star and his number, whether coincidence or not, it’s pretty cool.
To start off his Kyrie 6 in the right way, the new silhouette will debut with 11 different offerings all taking on different colors and themes that honor different cities around the world that hold a special meaning to Irving. The cities included in the collection are: Beijing, Berlin, Guangzhou, Houston, Los Angeles, Manila, Miami, New York City, Shanghai, Taipei and Tokyo.
