The annual Go Skateboarding Day arrives later this week, and skate shoe companies have some special plans for this year’s festivities. This week, we have an early look at a new sneaker release from Vans and Parra, teaming up for a wavy and colorful edition of the Half-Cab, coming soon.
Go Skateboarding Day originated in 2003, created by the International Association of Skateboard Companies (IASC) as a day to celebrate their shared passion and encourage skaters to ride together and elevate skateboarding across the world. Starting in 2004, skate brands began to hold events in major cities around the world for the occasion, usually hosting contests and barbecues at local parks to bring together their locals. Larger brands like Vans and Nike eventually joined in on the fun, either hosting events or contributing gear and supplies to their partners to help grow the annual holiday. This year, Vans has a special sneaker release set up for the celebratory occasion, teaming up with Amsterdam’s Parra for their release.
Piet Parra’s clothing label ByParra has been beloved by skaters around the world, thanks to their comfortable, loose fit and unique graphics and color story. The brand has been contributing to the world of skate fashion for over two decades, releasing a vast range of colorful apparel in those years as well as some high-profile collaborations. For this year’s “Go Skate” day release, they’ve teamed up with Vans’ OTW division for an elevated pair of the classic Half-Cab in their signature look. The style features an all-suede upper, using white for the forefoot and mudguard panels, and collegiate shades of blue, green, and red around the midfoot and collar portions. Each suede panel has a wavy edge similar to their recent Nike AM1 series, while the Half-Cab labels are hand drawn by Piet Parra himself.
PARRA X VANS HALF-CAB “GO SKATE” RELEASE INFORMATION
The upcoming release from Parra and Vans celebrating this year’s Go Skateboarding day has not been officially announced yet, but will likely arrive on the event’s day, June 21st, 2024. Giving the Half-Cab a makeover in Parra’s usual color theme with wavy shapes, pairs will likely be limited and release from local skate shops, with an elevated price tag of $120 or more.
