Sustainability is the name of the game in sneakers right now. Every brand has debuted some sort of recycled or reused technology in recent months, and never one to miss out on innovation, Salomon is joining the movement with its new Index.01 runner.
Footwear is one of the most environmentally impactful industries in the world. So, as more and more brands join the movement to inject more sustainability into their manufacturing processes from top to bottom, it makes the individual impact of each shoe noticeably less harmful. While it’s not a perfect solution or even a permanent one at that, it does make it a little easier as a consumer to buy shoes made with recycled materials. This month, the running and outdoor experts from Salomon are throwing their hat into the ring, unveiling their first big step into the sustainable sneakers market. Titled the Index.01, the new silhouette is one of the world’s first fully recyclable sneakers. Featuring an upper made from recycled polyester, and the brand new INFINIRIDE midsole tooling, which injects nitrogen gas into TPU foam, the Index is an ultralight, fully recyclable shoe, all you need to do is separate the upper from the midsole when you’re done using them.

Salomon’s new leap into the world of sustainable footwear, kicking off with the Index.01, is currently set to debut sometime next year, in the Spring of 2021. The Index.01 will likely begin its rollout in limited numbers, before slowly releasing globally as the year goes on.
