Special releases from sneaker brands featuring their signed athletes are nothing new; Player Exclusive releases have been around since before the start of Jordan Brand. But this month, Asics has shared something special, a new project with Houston Texans’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs, giving him his own pair of the GEL-Nimbus 10.1.

Japanese brand Asics is not typically known for their relationship to American football. The brand focuses primarily on running shoes, and has been innovating in that space since its founding in 1949. However, last fall the brand debuted a new campaign for their Fall/Winter SportStyle lineup, which featured wide receiver Stefon Diggs showing off a number of upcoming styles. Diggs even announced a partnership between the two, teaming up with Asics to cover his footwear and athletic apparel off the field. Now, it appears Stefon is getting his own collaboration with the running brand, though this first project may not be available to the public.

The first collaboration between Stefon Diggs and Asics features the GEL-Nimbus 10.1, an updated version of the 2011 running model, repurposed for lifestyle wear. The model is set to arrive amongst Asics’ in-line offerings soon, likely after an initial wave of collaborations. Diggs’ pair is a nod to the family & friends in his life, and will likely be limited to those people given its a limited run of just 250 pairs. The shoe features a mostly white upper, adding overlays in black and metallic silver. Some panels feature a warped grid pattern to them, while soft translucent pink accents decorate the tongues and heels. Additionally, charm bracelets saying ‘Friends’ wrap around each heel.
