Ewing Sneaker Marks 30th Anniversary Of Patrick Ewing’s Rookie Award

It’s been 30 years since NBA Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing won the Rookie of the Year Award. To mark the occasion, his eponymous sneaker label, Ewing Athletics, has created a special colorway of the retro Ewing 33 Hi that will hit stores on May 20.

The commemorative Ewing 33 Hi is made with authentic brown basketball leather with gold hardware, black laces and linings, and a black-and-white sole. On the tongue of the shoe are the words “Rookie of the Year” and the year “1986.”

For the occasion, the athletic brand (which relaunched in 2012 and is licensed by GPF Footwear LLC) has also collaborated on a matching Ewing x Sprayground backpack, made out of basketball leather with markings that mimic a court design.

The Ewing 33 Hi sneaker will retail for $130 at select sporting goods stores such as DTLR, Jimmy Jazz and Footaction, and online at Ewingathletics.com. The Ewing x Sprayground backpack will sell for $90.

Also on May 20, Ewing Athletics will rerelease one of its best-selling colorways of the Ewing 33 Hi, featuring an all-white upper with classic gum sole. That style is priced at $120.

And a new version of the Ewing 33 Lo sneaker will drop next Friday as well, retailing for $100. That style comes with a red leather upper, white laces, linings and stitching, and a white midsole and classic gum outsole.
