Is Skechers Spelled With T? Mr. T Has Answers in New Skechers Commercial

Skechers might not be revamping its logo to reflect the commonly misspelled use of the letter “t” anytime soon, but the athletic footwear brand is using the misconception to its advantage with a marketing commercial featuring actor and pop culture mogul Mr. T.

Just as he’s made every role he portrayed his own, the commercial could only soar with a stamp of approval from the actor himself.

The 30-second commercial pokes fun at the common misspelling while reinforcing the right way to spell the three-decade-old brand from start to finish of the clip. The president of Skechers, Michael Greenberg, previously told FN, “Not that we are considering changing the spelling of our name, but it would have been foolish to say no to Mr. T – the only ‘t’ that belongs in Skechers.”

Mr. T’s signature hairstyle and accessories were notably present in the clip as he grilled a burger, geared up for a tennis match, wrestled and some while modeling white, pink, neon, orange and red selections of the shoe.

The joke continues with Mr. T’s response to a commercial actors’ note, “Just Saying, people often misspell Skechers and put a ‘t’ in it.” The “Rocky III” actor quick-wittily follows up in his distinguishable tone “Maybe they should think about changing it then!”

Mr. T may have worn an entire capsule of Skechers latest’ releases in the time span of thirty seconds.

Skechers continues to back up its booming sales with celebrity-endorsed collaborations. Think Snoop Dogg in the annual Skechers x Super Bowl commercial, Martha Stewart‘s Women’s Day feature for Skechers’ Hands Free Slip-ins and Go Walk sandals designs, and Ashley Park, with a campaign themed around a musical number.
