New Balance has favored their 550 heavily since the ’80s basketball shoe was reintroduced to their catalog in 2020. The model has been a staple of their in-line releases, as well as dropping in a huge range of collaborations, and in-house special-editions. This week, a two-shoe pack of the latter has released, giving the model a 550-inspired look.

New Balance has silently dropped a new release of their 550 silhouette today, giving the shoe a new “Sashiko”-inspired makeover in two colorways. The brand’s focus on the model over the past few years has brought us a number of other special-edition pairs form their in-house line, but this new style also brings some material changes and interesting details. Available in “Linen” white as well as a “Pecan” brown, both pairs feature a knit canvas textile for their uppers, adding touches of suede for the shoe’s collar panels and ‘N’ logos. Tongues come in a pale grey shade, adding a patch of white with red polka dots that gives the shoe its Sahsiko-inspired look.
